The Tandem-Hook Rig

The Tandem-Hook Rig represents an easy way to add a second hook in line with the first. It is particularly effective for including a tail hook.

STEP 1 Insert the tag end through the eye of the first hook and leave a considerable amount of excess for tying the second hook. Then make a Double Overhand Knot (pass the tag end through the loop twice).

Step One

STEP 2 Pull gently on the standing part and tag end until the Double Overhand Knot "turns over," forming a figure-eight. After figure eight is formed push on both fine ends to enlarge the figure eight. Pass the hook through both loops of the figure eight and continue to tighten slowly until the knot seats at the eye of the first hook.

Step Two

STEP 3 When the Figure-Eight Knot has been seated, tie on the second hook using any of the basic connection knots. Be sure to adjust the distance of the second hook so that it fits the bait you plan to use.

Step Three
